How to read the countdown
The number at the top of this page is how many days are still left in the current calendar year — computed from your device's clock, updated at midnight.
If today is 23 April, for example, then 253 days remain (in a common year). The value runs from a high of 364 on January 1 down to 0 on December 31.
Why "days left" matters
- Annual goal tracking — fitness, reading lists, savings targets.
- Business deadlines — Q4 planning, fiscal year-end projections.
- New Year countdown — increasingly popular as 31 December approaches.
- School and university calendars — semesters and academic years.
Leap-year note
In a leap year, the year has 366 days instead of 365, so "days remaining" is one higher than it would be on the same date in a common year. The current year, 2026, is not a leap year. The next leap year is 2028.
Year-progress percentage
The "year ahead" percentage shows what fraction of the year is still in front of you. On January 1 this reads approximately 100%; on June 30 it crosses 50%; on December 31 it reaches 0%.
Using the countdown for goals and planning
Watching "days left in the year" tick down is a powerful psychological prompt. People who track it tend to:
- Finish annual goals they had been drifting from
- Spend more intentionally as deadlines approach
- Reflect more on progress in Q4 than in Q1–Q3
- Plan next year's priorities more concretely
If you have financial goals, savings targets, fitness milestones, or creative projects with year-end deadlines, this countdown is a useful anchor. Add it to your bookmarks or home screen.
Year-progress milestones
| Milestone | Date (non-leap year) | Day of year |
|---|---|---|
| 25% through the year | 2 April | 92 |
| Halfway | 2 July | 183 |
| Two-thirds | 1 September | 244 |
| 75% through | 2 October | 275 |
| 90% through | 26 November | 330 |
| Last 30 days begin | 2 December | 336 |
| Last week begins | 25 December | 359 |
Common "days-left" questions
- Days until New Year's Day — always equal to (366 − today's day number) if we're past February in a non-leap year, or (367 − today's day number) in a leap year.
- Days until Christmas — Christmas is day 359 in a non-leap year, day 360 in a leap year.
- Days until Thanksgiving (US) — variable; typically day 329–335.
The psychology of counting down
Research in behavioral economics suggests that making deadlines concrete increases follow-through. People who track a remaining day count are more likely to complete annual goals than those who track elapsed days, even though the two are mathematically equivalent. The remaining-days framing creates urgency; the elapsed-days framing creates complacency.
